Frequently Asked Questions
-
Cradle is a private, in-home postpartum support service created by two Registered Midwives who believe care shouldn't end when you leave hospital. We help families navigate the early weeks with practical support, evidence-based guidance, and continuity of care - all from the comfort of home.
-
The latest evidence from leading Obstetric and Midwifery Colleges points to a growing need for flexible, individually tailored postnatal care - with a hospital stay being just one part of that picture. Most parents spend months preparing for labour and birth, but the biggest adjustment often begins once they're home. Feeding, recovery, sleep, newborn care, and finding your confidence all happen in real time. Having experienced midwives alongside you means you don't have to figure it out alone.
Home-based postpartum support gives you experienced guidance as questions arise, helping you feel more confident in your recovery, your baby, and yourself. We're here to help you enjoy the first few weeks - not just survive them.
-
Your planning session is all about preparing for life after birth. We'll get to know you, talk through your birth preferences, feeding goals, recovery, support network and any questions or concerns you have. It's also a chance to build a relationship with us before your baby arrives, so when we walk through your door after birth, we're already familiar faces.
-
No two visits are the same because no two families are. We'll meet you where you are, whether that's supporting feeding, checking on your recovery, helping with newborn care, answering questions, talking through sleep and settling, or simply offering reassurance. Our visits are practical, personalised and centred around what you need that day.
-
Cradle On Call gives you direct access to your midwives between visits, seven days a week. Sometimes a question can't wait until your next appointment, and sometimes you simply need reassurance. Whether it's feeding, recovery or newborn care, we're only a phone call or message away.
-
Night Support gives you the reassurance of having a Registered Midwife in your home from 10pm to 6am. This isn't sleep training; it's compassionate support during one of the most demanding times in early parenthood. We will attend to feeding, settling and newborn care so you can rest knowing your baby is in safe hands.
-
Absolutely. We support all feeding journeys without judgement. No matter how you decide to feed your baby, we're here to provide evidence-based guidance, practical help and reassurance so you can feel confident feeding your baby in the way that's right for your family.
While we aren't International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), as Registered Midwives we have extensive experience supporting infant feeding in the early postpartum period. We can help with positioning and attachment, expressing, bottle feeding, developing a feeding plan, and working through many of the common challenges families experience. If more specialised lactation support is needed, we'll help connect you with a trusted IBCLC and continue to work alongside you as part of your care team.
-
Absolutely. At Cradle we understand that every family is different. If our standard packages don't quite fit what you're looking for, we'll create a personalised care plan based on your circumstances. For those who have purchased an existing package, additional visits are always available.
-
Yes. One of the things that makes Cradle different is continuity of care. Georgia and Alisa work together as a team, so you'll build a relationship with both of us throughout your journey. Care never depends on one person's availability - you'll always be supported by someone who already knows you.
-
We recommend booking during pregnancy to secure your place and allow time for your planning session before baby arrives. However, our Restore package is designed specifically for families who have already had their baby and would like support now.
-
Once you have chosen and purchased the package that suits your family's needs, we will be in touch with you to set up your portal and book your first appointment.
-
Always. We welcome and support all families, including single parents, LGBTQIA+ families, blended families, adoptive parents and families welcoming babies in many different ways. Every family's story is unique, and our care is tailored with respect, compassion and without judgement.
-
Cradle is a mobile, in-home service, which means we come to you. We currently care for families across Melbourne. If you're unsure whether you're within our service area, feel free to email us at hello@cradlemidwives.com.
-
Yes. Gift vouchers are available and make a meaningful alternative to traditional baby shower gifts. Instead of giving another item, loved ones can contribute to something many families value most - practical support during the early weeks.
-
No. Cradle complements the care you receive from your hospital, GP and other healthcare providers. We work alongside your existing healthcare team to provide ongoing education, guidance and postpartum support once you're home.
